FOCUSING
     OUR
      SPIRITUAL VISION
By: Chris Chandler
God has a perfect plan for each one of us in these last days, and He wants us to have the perfect vision to carry out that plan. God wants us to be able to see things in the Spirit that we have never seen before. He wants us to focus the eyes of our heart on the Author and Finisher of our faith, our Lord Jesus Christ.

THE EYES OF OUR HEART
In the natural, our eyes lead and guide us in the direction we are to walk. In the same way, God has given us "spiritual eyes" to help guide us in the realm of the Spirit. Paul spoke of this....
I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe.
Ephesians 1:18-19 NIV
The Holy Spirit enables the "eyes of our heart" to see clearly in order that we may know God's perfect plan for our lives and the "incomparably great power" of God. This was God's intention for us when He created mankind.

MAN WAS CREATED TO SEE GOD
In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were created with perfect spiritual vision. They were able to fellowship with God and to see Him face to face. God gave them only one command....
"You are free to eat of any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."
Genesis 2:16-17 NIV
Satan came to Eve in the form of a serpent and tricked them into partaking of the fruit of one forbidden tree. At that moment, their eyes were opened to both good and evil. Up until then they knew only blessings and goodness, but after partaking of the fruit they lost their spiritual vision.
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
But the LORD God called to the man, "Where are you?" He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid." And He said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"
Genesis 3:7-11 NIV
Adam and Eve could no longer see the Lord face to face.

We must have our spiritual eyes perfectly focused upon Jesus...

They could only hear His voice when He came to them in the garden. They had lost their spiritual vision.
Jesus is considered the second Adam. (I Cor.15: 45) This is because He could see perfectly into the realm of the Spirit. He was able to see God the Father face to face just as Adam and Eve did originally in the Garden of Eden. Jesus came to restore mankind's ability to see God face to face, and that is why He sent the Holy Spirit to restore man's spiritual vision.

SEEING INTO THE SPIRIT
We must open the eyes of our heart to the Spirit of God and follow His leading. God has a perfect destiny for us and we can only see it through the eyes of our spirit, focused intensely through the Holy Spirit.
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal...we live by faith, not by sight.
II Corinthians 4:18 & 5:7 NIV
We need to "fix", or continually focus, the eyes of our heart on the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. It is then that we are able to live by faith and not by what we see in the natural.
God showed me that the Holy Spirit is like a telescope. A telescope enables us to look into the far reaches of the universe. We are able to view spectacular wonders beyond our normal, natural vision. In the same way, the Holy Spirit allows us to see the deeper things of God.
However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him" but God has revealed it to us by His Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
1 Corinthians 2: 9-10 NIV
God told Abraham to look up and see that his seed would become numerous as the stars in the sky. (Gen. 15:5) With his natural eyes, Abraham could only see around 6,000 stars. We now know that there are billions of stars in the universe. I believe that the moment Abraham looked up into the heavens, God enabled him to see billions of stars far beyond his natural vision. From this moment on, because of the vision God gave him, Abraham was able to believe the impossible.

WITH PERFECT SPIRITUAL VISION, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE
We must be focused on the Holy Spirit as we enter into the greatest time ever. We will then have the perfect spiritual vision to see God's plan, purpose, and destiny for our life. Just as our eyes must be perfectly focused upon an object to see it clearly, we must have our spiritual eyes perfectly focused upon Jesus. When Jesus walked on water, Peter was able to defy the laws of nature by walking with Him. As long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, He was able to do the impossible.
We are entering into a time in which we, the church, are going to do things that have never been done before. Jesus said that we will do the things that He did and even greater. He is coming back for a glorious church. He is coming back for a church with perfect spiritual vision. Jesus said...
But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
Matthew 13:16-17
