Clothe Yourself With Joy! Living a Life of Christian Joy!
By: Chris Chandler ![]()
God wants us to be filled with His power and presence each and every day. We need to enter into the glorious realm of God's Spirit. If we will do that, we will be clothed with the joy of the Lord.
The Joy Of The Lord Is Our StrengthGod wants us to live a life of joy. He wants to give us His joy. His joy enables us to do great and mighty things. It is actually the muscle behind our faith.
...Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
Nehemiah 8:10 NIV
We are strengthened by the Holy Spirit in our inner man by the joy of the Lord. Since His joy is our strength, we need to let it flow through us all the time. The joy of the Lord will carry us through anything the devil would try to put on us. God said about Jesus...
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has set You above Your companions by anointing You with the oil of joy.Hebrews 1:9 NIV
Jesus was anointed with the oil of joy. If we will allow that same anointing to flow in our lives, we will be strengthened by the Holy Spirit. That strength will destroy the works of the enemy just as it did when Jesus walked the earth.
...God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him.
Acts 10:38 NIV
Jesus Danced Joyfully
The Lord gave me an amazing revelation of what He did when He entered hell to
set the captives free during His death (1 Peter 3:18-20; Matt. 12:40). Jesus told me that He grabbed the keys of death and hell out of the hands of the devil (Rev. 1:18). At that very instant, He backhanded the devil, violently throwing him to the ground. The force was so stong from this impact that every tooth was knocked out of the devil's head! (Job 29:17; Psa. 3:7) Once Jesus had the keys in hand, He laughed and danced on the devil's head! This fulfilled the prophecy concerning Jesus that God spoke to the serpent, or the devil, in the garden of Eden...
The devil is filled with fear because he remembers how Jesus made a public spectacle of him
He will crush your head, and you will strike His heel.
Gen. 3:15 NIV
Isaiah spoke of this event and said that the devil looked like a "corpse trampled underfoot" (Isa. 14:19).
The Lord then showed me that the devil is like a dog that has been struck by lightning before. Whenever the dog hears the sound of thunder, it runs for cover. The devil can't stand to hear the joy of the Lord any more than that dog can stand to hear thunder. Whenever the devil hears anyone filled with the joy of the Lord, it sends fear shooting right through him. He is reminded of the time Jesus laughed and danced on his head.
Looking Like Jesus
When we have the joy of the Lord, the devil doesn't even see us. He sees the anointing of Jesus, which is the oil of joy! This anointing covers us like a garment when we are overflowing with the joy of the Lord.
You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy.
Psalms 30:11 NIV
The Lord wants us to cast all of our cares and worries upon Him and be filled
with His joy. When we do that, we are clothing ourselves in the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 13:14). The enemy can't see us anymore because he sees Jesus instead. The devil is filled with fear because he remembers how Jesus made a public spectacle of him (Col. 2:15).
How To Be Clothed With Joy
To clothe ourselves with joy, we need to enter into the presence of the Lord. In His presence there is fullness of joy.
You will show me the path of life; in Your Presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.
Psalms 16:11 Amp.
God wants us to seek His face every day and to continually praise Him. If we will stay hungry and thirsty for the Lord, He will fill us up (Mat. 5:6). In fact, Jesus said that He wants us to be filled with the full measure of His joy (John 17:13). If we will ask Him to fill us up, then our cups will overflow!
Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them."
Psalms 126:2 NIV
