By: Chris Chandler If you are a born-again believer in Jesus Christ, you have access to the greatest power supply in the universe...the anointing. The anointing of God enables you to do the impossible! The Anointing Oil The word "anoint" literally means to smear or rub with oil. In the Old Testament, all of God's chosen servants (prophets, priests, and kings) were anointed with oil. (I Kings 19:16, Exo. 40:15, 2 Sam.2:4) The anointing oil was important because it consecrated and empowered them as servants of God. Jesus was anointed with the oil of joy... Hebrews 1:9 NIV You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has set You above Your companions by anointing You with the oil of joy." Jesus: "The Anointed One" The word "Christ" literally means "the Anointed One and His anointing". It is the same word that is used for "Messiah" in the Old Testament. When Jesus began His earthly ministry, He said... "The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18-19 NIV Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power. Acts 10:38 NIV How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him. Everywhere Jesus went He had the power to perform many miracles.   The Anointing Is The Power of God God described to me one day what the anointing is like. He said that it is like electricity. The Holy Spirit is like the wire that delivers the current and God is the power source. When we "plug into" the Spirit we are energized by the power of God. God also told me that we are to allow the anointing to flow through us continually. He showed me how it works. He said the Holy Spirit is like a pipeline from heaven. The anointing is like "water" that flows through the "pipeline". John 7:38-39 NIV Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." By this He meant the Spirit, Whom those who believed in Him were later to receive. Jesus Has Anointed Us When Jesus ascended into heaven, He anointed us with the Holy Spirit and power. He wants us to do the same things that He did on the earth and even greater! (John 14:12) 1 John 2:20 & 27 NIV You have an anointing from the Holy One...As for you, the anointing you received from Him remains in you. 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 NIV Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. What The Anointing Will Do The anointing empowers us to fearlessly tell others about Jesus. Acts 1:8 NIV But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." The anointing enables us to perform mighty signs, wonders, and miracles. Mark 16:19-20 NIV After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was taken up into heaven and He sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed His Word by the signs that accompanied it. The anointing has the power to destroy every yoke and remove every burden in our lives. Isaiah 10:27 KJV And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. The anointing will enable us to reap in a massive end-time harvest of souls. We will show forth God's goodness. It will be the goodness of God that will bring multitudes to repentance!
